UTA readies Sugar House streetcar tests
Written by Douglas John BowenUtah Transit Authority will begin test runs on the Sugar House streetcar line next week, the agency announced Wednesday, Aug, 28, 2013.
The 1.9-mile route is scheduled to begin revenue service in December. Service headways will be every 20 minutes. Initial daily ridership is expected to be 3,000, growing to 4,000 by 2030 – a figure streetcar advocates nationwide suggest is a very cautious projection.
UTA will employ Siemens Mobility S70 streetcars for the route, complementing its S70 light rail transit vehicles used for TRAX LRT service.
