UTA readies Airport TRAX debut

Written by Douglas John Bowen

Utah Transit Authority will open its Airport TRAX light rail transit line Saturday, April 13, with daylong festivities and a food drive benefitting the Utah Food Bank.

UTA says the food contributions will serve as the LRT “fare” for the day between 10:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., for rides anywhere on the new line, which terminates at Salt Lake City International Airport.

Regular revenue service will begin Sunday, the 14th, as part of UTA’s Green Line.

UTA’s TRAX operations began in December 1999. Work continues on the 3.8-mile Draper extension, with service expected to be added to the extension’s namesake city, later this year or in 2014.
