Next California city eyeing streetcars: Riverside

Written by Douglas John Bowen

Riverside, Calif. Mayor Rusty Bailey is proceeding with plans for a 12-mile streetcar line linking University of California-Riverside with the city's western boundary.

Riverside lies roughly 55 miles east of Los Angeles, which is aggressively pursuing a streetcar network. It also lies east of Anaheim, considering a starter line. Santa Ana, Calif., just south of Anaheim, also is pondering a streetcar project.

Riverside officials have applied for a grant from the Southern California Association of Governments to fund a study of the route.
