Mosaic Transit Group (MTG) has awarded Bombardier Transportation a 30-year contract to maintain light rail vehicles and wayside track and catenary systems for the new C$2.5 billion (US$1.95 billion) Finch West LRT project in northwest Toronto. The 11-km (6.8-mile) line is a P3 of Infrastructure Ontario; Metrolinx; and MTG, a joint venture of ACS Infrastructure and AECON that has a DBFM (design, build, finance, maintain) contract.

Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) will operate the Finch West line, running 18 Alstom-supplied LRVs along Finch Avenue (see map below). Thales is providing a SelTrac™ Communications Based Train Control (CBTC) signaling system.

The project includes 18 stations—with an underground interchange at the Finch West station (connecting to the TTC Line 1 Yonge-University subway) and a below-grade stop at Humber College—and a maintenance and storage facility. It is slated for completion in 2023.

“We are delighted to be part of the team that is expanding mobility options for the citizens of the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA),” said Elliot G. (Lee) Sander, President, Americas Region of Bombardier Transportation. “We bring our deep understanding of transportation in the GTHA region and our extensive experience as a provider of mobility solutions and participant in PPPs to ensure that Finch West LRT will provide the same high level of safe, efficient and reliable transportation as the rest of the Metrolinx network.”

In related developments, Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and Metrolinx recently awarded the 360 Transit Alliance Joint Venture, comprising Stantec and Jacobs, a program control services contract for four TTC (Toronto Transit Commission) projects, valued at C$28.5 billion (US$22.07 billion).
