South Florida Regional Transportation Authority/Tri-Rail’s new Miami International Airport Station (MIA) will open April 5, 2015, as part of the Miami Intermodal Center (MIC).

Tri-Rail says passengers will have “a seamless and immediate connection to the airport via a short ride on the MIA Mover” (people-mover).

Tri-Rail’s schedule will be slightly adjusted to include the additional stop, which will return to being the southernmost station on the 72-mile rail corridor. However, arrival times for the remaining stations will remain the same as in the current Tri-Rail schedule.

MIC is designed to accommodate several transportation connections. Tri-Rail will join Miami-Dade Transit’s Metrorail rapid transit system and Metrobus service, which already have access to the facility, along with the Rental Car Center and taxi service. Anticipated future service includes Amtrak, Greyhound buses and bicycle lockers.

“This is another significant milestone, which is symbolic of our vital role to connect South Florida to the world,” said SFRTA Commissioner Bruno Barreiro. “Our loyal passengers, plus the thousands of new riders that we anticipate to travel in and out of Miami International Airport, will greatly enjoy this state-of-the art facility that we expect will become an international transit hub of which we can all be proud.”
