The South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA) has appointed veteran passenger and freight railroader Lois Pittman Director of Operations & Maintenance (O&M) for the Tri-Rail regional/commuter rail system.

Pittman’s responsibilities include oversight of SFRTA’s contract O&M provider, Transdev (formerly Veolia Transdev); execution of contractual deliverables including extra work; and bringing special and capital rehabilitation projects in on time and within budget. She is also responsible for station and fleet maintenance; the Commuter Connector, SFRTA’s free feeder/shuttle bus; the Customer Service Call Center; and station agents.

Pittman joined SFRTA in April 2017 as Manager, O&M. She brings more than 20 years of experience in the transportation industry to her position. Among the railroads she has served are Norfolk Southern (Yard Operations Manager, Dearborn and Virginia Divisions; and Chief Intermodal Clerk/Load Planner, Chicago); CN (Transportation Services Manager, Southern Region, Central Division, Memphis, as well as Trainmaster positions in the Gulf Coast Louisiana Area); BNSF (Hub Operations Supervisor, Greater Chicago Area); and, most recently, the Chicago Transit Authority, where she was Rail Transportation Manager. She also served in the U.S. Army as a Transportation Supply Specialist for A Company, 5th Transportation Battalion, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.

A native of Newark, N.J., Pittman has a degree in Psychology from Prairie State College, Chicago Heights, Ill., and a B.S. in Business Administration-Management and Operations from Capella University, Minneapolis. In September 2016, she became a Certified Train Operator with the CTA.
