Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and Metrolinx have issued a request for qualifications (RFQ) for a DBFOM (design build, finance, operate and maintain) contract for the Hurontario LRT (light rail transit) project in Mississaugua, Ontario, Canada.

The 22-station, 12.4-mile (20 km) north-south line will link the Port Credit GO Transit commuter rail station in Mississaugua on the Lakeshore West Line with the Gateway Terminal at Steeles Avenue in Brampton, on GO Transit’s Milton  Line. The RFQ includes procurement of a fleet of light rail vehicles and an LRV maintenance and storage facility at Highway 407.

The Huntario LRT project seeks to double the corridor’s transit capacity and improve travel times.

The RFQ is the first step in the procurement process to select a contractor team to deliver the project. Metrolinx will evaluate submissions to prequalify project teams with sufficient experience and financial capacity to deliver the project. Qualified project teams will be invited to respond to an RFP (request for proposals) in early 2017.
