NJT Installing Railhead Onboard Video SystemsWritten by Marybeth Luczak, Executive Editor
New Jersey Transit is boosting safety and security on its commuter rail system with 200 high-definition onboard video systems from Burr Ridge, Ill.-based Railhead Corp.
Railhead Corp. reported on Aug. 23 that the new LDVRHD-12 (High Definition Locomotive Video System) and Fleet-Wide Tracking Router (FWT) “will enable NJT management to respond to situations and incidents quickly while maintaining the highest level of safety and service for their customers.” It will also allow the agency to live-stream video, initiate remote downloads of video, take a snapshot image, or view system health.
Railhead said it also supplied the latest Digital Video Recorder, which is capable of supporting 12 cameras. NJT’s system includes 360-degree and interior dome cameras installed throughout the passenger areas of its coach and trailer cars.
“Railhead’s systems are designed and manufactured specifically for the heavy rail environments,” said Fred Cozzi, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Railhead, which also manufactures and distributes locomotive LED headlights, LED safety warning lights and equipment. “We are grateful for the opportunity to work with NJT on helping them to reduce maintenance and operating costs and improve efficiency. While Railhead’s video system will help NJT mitigate risk and reduce liability in the event of an incident, the real benefit is the improved safety and security for NJT’s passengers.”
