The Southern California Regional Rail Authority (Metrolink) has renewed its contract with Amtrak for regional/commuter rail operations services, beginning Jan. 1, 2021 and expiring June 30, 2025. Amtrak will also provide and manage engineers and conductors.

“We are honored to continue serving Metrolink and the communities and residents of Southern California,” said Amtrak President Stephen Gardner, who was promoted to his leadership post Nov. 30. “We look forward to building upon our many years of partnership and helping the agency achieve its bold vision of growth and improvement.”

Metrolink is the nation’s third-largest commuter rail system with 407 unduplicated and 538 total route-miles.

In other developments, Metrolink recently chose HDR as program manager for Phase 1 of its SCORE (Southern California Optimized Rail Expansion) capital improvement program.
