Emily Gallo has joined HNTB Corp. as Government Relations Director for the firm’s Northeast Division. She’s based in HNTB’s Empire State Building office in New York City.

Gallo’s responsibilities include directing the firm’s government relations activities for New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine and New Hampshire. She also helps develop government and public affairs plans and collaborates with HNTB’s government relations professionals across the firm to develop and maintain relationships with key transportation infrastructure policymakers.

Prior to joining HNTB, Gallo served as chief of staff to the commissioner of the New York City Department of Transportation. In that role, she “helped set strategy to advance many key transportation projects, including reconstruction of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, expansion of New York City’s bike share program and bus service improvements. She also launched the DOT Future Leaders Program, a year-long process to foster the next generation of agency leaders by providing early- to mid-career professionals the opportunity to develop networking, communication and presentation skills.”

Before that, Gallo served as chief of staff and policy director for the New York City Taxi & Limousine Commission where she helped create a pilot program for the introduction of ride-sharing services in New York City.

A cum laude graduate of Yale University with a Bachelor’s in American (Urban) Studies, Gallo also holds a Master’s degree in city and regional planning from the University of Pennsylvania. She is a graduate of the Women’s Transportation Seminar mid-careers leadership program and a frequent speaker at WTS panels as well as New York University’s Rudin Center for Transportation.

“Emily’s extensive experience provides her with strategic insights in working with various stakeholders and clients,” said Phil Brake, P.E., President of HNTB’s Northeast Division. “Her experience will certainly be helpful to clients who are advancing major mobility improvements.”
