Canadian Infrastructure Funds sign C$1.08 billion agreement with Alberta

The building blueprints continue in Canada: The province of Alberta is the latest participant with the Government of Canada’s historic C$120 billion (US$92 billion) "Investing in Canada" plan for public infrastructure across the country over the next 10 years.
On Sept. 1, 2016, Amarjeet Sohi, Canada’s Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, and Brian Mason, Alberta Minister of Infrastructure and Minister of Transportation, announced a bilateral agreement that will make more than C$1.08 billion (US$831 million) in funding available under two new federal programs—the Public Transit Infrastructure Fund and the Clean Water and Wastewater Fund.
The federal government is providing up to 50% of funding—more than C$543 million (US$418 million)—for the C$1.08 billion (US$831 million) of projects supported through these programs, while the provincial government and municipalities will provide the balance of funding.
The initial list of approved projects in Alberta includes 46 transit projects across Edmonton to support planning for the city’s next LRT expansion, and new LRVs and LRT station refurbishment in Calgar.
The list covering Alberta and other Canadian provinces will expand as the infrastructure blueprints develop in the coming months.
