Miller Ingenuity was selected to supply ZoneGuard, its electronic roadway worker protection system, for the Bay Area Rapid Transit’s (BART) mainline track in compliance with CPUC GO 175-A, to warn track workers and equipment operators of trains approaching on adjacent tracks.
BART chose the ZoneGuard portable system kit, which includes train detector modules, train alert modules and worker wearable devices. The portable kit weighs less than 5 pounds and is flexible enough to easily set up and transport to multiple job sites.
With the purchase of ZoneGuard, BART has fulfilled California’s state requirement for transit agencies to comply with roadway worker protection rules defined in General Order NO. 175-A. One of those rules requires agencies to adopt “early warning alarm technology” to coincide with their existing protection procedures.
“The rail industry is continuing to take notice of the accuracy and reliability of ZoneGuard’s protection capabilities,” said Kevin Smith, Senior Vice President Global Sales and Marketing, Miller. “Our customers want to protect their workers and ensure they come home safe to their families. BART’s inclusion of our secondary warning system into their existing safety procedures will help eliminate human error factors that are known to contribute to near misses and tragic accidents. This will result in a safer and more productive working environment for BART employees.”
