Intermodal transportation company Werner Enterprises honored military veterans at locations nationwide with Veterans Day ceremonies at its global headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska, and its Phoenix, Arizona, and Fontana, California, terminals.

Werner Enterprises announced November 10 its designation as a 2017 Military Friendly® Employer by G.I. Jobs® magazine.

This is the eleventh time Werner has been named a Military Friendly® Employer. The annual list distinguishes elite companies who offer the strongest job opportunities, hiring practices and retention programs for transitioning service members and spouses seeking civilian employment. Werner will be featured with other 2017 Military Friendly® Employers in the December issue of G.I. Jobs® magazine.

Werner representatives who spoke at terminal ceremonies include President and CEO Derek Leathers, Associate Vice President of Student and Government Recruiting Jim Morbach, Vice President of Recruiting Chris Polenz, Senior Vice President of Dedicated and TCU Eric Downing, and Associate Director Rick Buchholz. Werner offered all military veteran associates free lunch following the day’s events.

“We are honored to have the opportunity to express our sincere appreciation for the service and bravery of our nation’s military veterans,” said President and CEO Derek Leathers. “We strive to demonstrate that gratitude with our commitment to our veteran and veteran spouse hiring initiatives.”

As a military-friendly employer, Werner is proud to say that military veterans and veteran spouses comprise approximately 20% of its workforce.

“Our policy is to hire only the most elite professionals in our industry and our military service members and spouses have consistently strengthened our workforce and proved that they are the best of the best,” said President and CEO Derek Leathers.
