Viance, a Charlotte, N.C.-based provider of wood treatment technologies and services, announced Nov. 28 that it has hired Jeff Thomas as Industrial Sales Manager. He will be responsible for customer relations to service growing market demand for the company’s line of DCOI preservative products.

According to Viance, the company was the first to develop DCOI as a wood preservative, first in the residential market and in recent years as the preferred wood preservative for utility poles and crossarms. Currently Class I railroads and short lines are evaluating DCOI ties, the company says. Thomas will focus on the wood utility pole, crossarm and railroad tie markets to transition producers to DCOI who service utilities, Class I and short line railroads.

Thomas brings experience with infrastructure and construction markets. Most recently, he served as Eastern and Southern Regional Manager for a wood preservative supplier that manufactures copper naphthenate.

“With the industry shifting to DCOI, Jeff’s relationships with the railroad industry will be an asset to further enhance our operations and deepen relationships with our producer customers and their end users,” said Viance Business Development Manager Bob Baeppler.

Thomas’s prior experience includes nine years with Unitrac Railroad Materials, (now Wabtec Corporation) as Plant Manager. Former roles held were with Seigler Building & Development, Davis Excavating and Jordan & Coulter General Contractors.

Thomas is a proud veteran, having served with the U.S. Marine Corps.
