Infrastructure engineering software firm Bentley Systems, Inc., has acquired Montreal-based INRO Software; Savage has selected a terminal operating system from Octopi, part of Navis and Cargotec Corp., for a new intermodal terminal at Union Pacific’s rail yard in Pocatello, Idaho.

Bentley will combine its passenger and pedestrian simulation and civil design software with the capabilities of INRO’s advanced traffic and vehicle simulation to help “deliver comprehensive mobility digital twins of multimodal transportation systems at urban, metropolitan, regional and national scale,” according to the company.

INRO’s products include Emme, a multimodal transportation planning system for urban, regional and national transportation forecasting; Dynameq, a vehicle-based traffic simulation platform for city-wide traffic planning; and CityPhi, a “mobility visualization solution providing data visualization and visual analytics of large-scale mobility and geospatial datasets.” Among its simulation product users are Transport for London, the Washington State Department of Transportation, and the public transport system of São Paulo SPTrans.

Late last month, Savage entered into an agreement with Union Pacific (UP) to construct and operate Savage Railport-Southern Idaho for the export of containerized hay and other agricultural commodities. Savage has now chosen Octopi by Navis’ cloud-based terminal operating system (TOS). This software-as-a-service system is said to be designed for small- and mid-sized container and mixed cargo terminals.
