IRJ at InnoTrans 2022: The trains will be delivered between June and December 2023.

Siemens Mobility presented the Mireo Plus B battery train to the public for the first time at InnoTrans. The Baden-Württemberg state-owned rolling stock leasing company SFBW ordered 27 Mireo Plus B trains from Siemens Mobility in 2020.

The two-car electric trains with 120 seats feature a battery hybrid drive and are scheduled to operate in Network 8 of the Ortenau regional system. Delivery of the multiple-units is scheduled between June and December 2023.

The Mireo Plus B can operate for more than 80km under real world conditions in battery mode, and the batteries can be charged via the overhead line and regenerative braking. The battery system is mounted underfloor and includes two battery containers. Long-life lithium-ion batteries are used.

It is planned that Siemens Mobility will also maintain the trains for 30 years. The trains are being built at the Siemens Mobility plant in Krefeld, Germany.

Network 8 Ortenau comprises the routes:

  • Offenburg – Freudenstadt/Hornberg
  • Offenburg – Bad Griesbach
  • Offenburg – Achern
  • Achern – Ottenhöfen
  • Biberach (Baden) – Oberharmersbach-Riersbach, and
  • Calw – Weil der Stadt – Renningen

In addition to the order for Baden-Württemberg, Siemens Mobility has also received two further orders for the Mireo Plus B. Niederbarnimer Eisenbahn (NEB) ordered 31 trains in 2021, and seven will be delivered to Central Jutland Railways in Denmark from the end of 2024.
