Written by Carolina Worrell, Senior Editor

The Short Line Safety Institute (SLSI) is seeking candidates for the position of executive director. This person will be responsible for implementing the mission, vision, and goals of SLSI, which is to “provide leadership to enhance the safety culture and conformance of short line and regional railroads through voluntary, non-punitive partnerships in close coordination with the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA).

SLSI’s strategic goals are to “enhance and improve safety practices and to increase the short line and regional railroad industry’s culture of commitment to safety through assessing their safety culture, providing them with opportunities to improve that safety culture, and providing leadership, training, and education about safety culture and conformance.”

The executive director will oversee the development and implementation of the assessment, research, education, communication, and training programs for SLSI. The executive director will also be responsible for the development of SLSI’s budget and overseeing all required financial reports.

The successful candidate will lead key executives, mid-level managers, and staff in the successful implementation of the established mission, vision, and goals of SLSI. This position will fulfill an important oversight role, reporting directly to the president of SLSI, as well as an important liaison role to the SLSI Board of Directors, SLSI Safety Advisory Board, ASLRRA, and the ASLRRA Safety & Training Committee.

The executive director position will be supported by the senior advisor, the grant administrator, and will work closely with ASLRRA staff on strategic communications and program development. Applicants are encouraged to send an email with resume and cover letter including salary requirements to [email protected]. The application deadline is Oct. 12, 2015.
