RSI Scholarship application now available

Written by Douglas John Bowen

The Railway Supply Institute says its RSI 2012/2013 Academic Year Scholarship application is now available online. Applications and related materials are due on April 20.

Since 1989, RSI’s Scholarship Program has provided a minimum of four annual scholarships to full time students whose parents work throughout the rail supply community. More than 100 students have received RSI Scholarships which have contributed to their educations in a variety of degrees such as nursing, teaching, engineering, business, and transportation specialists.

Applicants for the 2013/2013 scholarship must be currently enrolled as a full time student at an accredited / post-secondary institution leading to an Associates or Bachelors degree. The applicant must expect to achieve at least Sophomore Status in his/her institution by the beginning of the 2012 / 2013 academic year. (High school students are not eligible for the RSI scholarship even with credit hours.) Ranking of applicants is based on grade point average, content of essay, community service, work and school related activities, and recommendation letters.

Those eligible for the scholarship must be the child or dependent of a current employee whose company is a member of the Railway Supply Institute or one of the Coordinated Mechanical Associations (CMA). These include: the Air Brake Association, Inc. (ABA), the International Association of Railway Operating Officers (IAROO), the Mechanical Association Railcar Technical Services (MARTS), and Locomotive Maintenance Officers Association (LMOA).

To learn more, or to make a financial donation to the scholarship, visit RSI’s Scholarship Page or contact Amanda Patrick, Tel.: 202-347-4664; Email: [email protected].
