At Railway Age’s Eighth Annual Rail Insights Conference, to be held virtually June 23, Surface Transportation Board Chair Martin J. Oberman will cover freight railroad service, reciprocal switching, supply chain congestion, labor shortages and Amtrak access—among the controversial issues the Board has been addressing during recent hearings.

Railway Age Contributing Editor and former FRA Deputy Administrator Don Itzkoff will engage in a “Fireside Chat” style conversation with Oberman, who with the STB has placed the Class I railroads under a microscope, examining everything from a drastic decline in service quality to accusations of an excessive focus on operating ratio and short-term profits.

Their conversation is just one part of the Rail Insights 2022 Conference, which will explore what is affecting business growth, capital investment, technology, regulation, service quality and safety in the North American rail market—freight and passenger.

Also on the line-up are such industry leaders as CSX President and CEO James M. Foote; Amtrak President and CEO Stephen Gardner; Watco CEO Dan Smith; and GATX Executive Vice President and President, Rail North America Paul Titterton. They will talk with Railway Age editors William C. Vantuono and David Nahass about key strategic challenges, issues and trends. Kicking off the conference will be keynote speaker Lance Fritz, President and CEO of Union Pacific.

In addition to its speakers, Railway Age’s Rail Insights 2022 Conference is being supported by a number of sponsors: CSX, TrinityRail, Union Pacific, Watco, Amsted Digital Solutions, Loram, Siemens, and The Greenbrier Companies.
