Valley Metro of Phoenix, Ariz., appoints Melissa Boyles as Chief of Staff and Mike Pal as Chief Transportation Officer. Also, Railroad Software hires Tony Giamboy as Director of Product Engineering.

Valley Metro

At Valley Metro, Melissa Boyles will assist CEO Jessica Mefford-Miller and coordinate with internal staff and city partners to “further initiatives important to the organization and the future of transit in the Valley,” the transit agency reported May 22. With 25 years of transportation industry experience, Boyles served most recently as Vice President of Diversity & Development at Stacy and Witbeck, Inc., and has worked for the Stacy and Witbeck Foundation (President), Jacobs (Vice President), Hill International (Director of Compliance), and the Arizona Department of Transportation (Civil Rights Administrator; DBE Supportive Services Manager), among other firms. She has a comprehensive understanding of the transportation industry, strong alliances with national and local transportation professionals, and a passion for public transportation, according to Valley Metro.

Mike Pal has joined Valley Metro to lead teams tasked with the development of light rail, streetcar, bus and demand-responsive services, including paratransit. Previously, he was Deputy Chief Operating Officer at Metro Transit in Minneapolis, overseeing light rail, commuter rail and bus, among other services. Pal began his 30-year transit career at the Metropolitan Transportation Authority in New York as a bus operator, and rose through the ranks there to roles responsible for the delivery of bus, bus rapid transit and paratransit.

“I am extremely excited to add these two new talented leaders to the Valley Metro team,” said Jessica Mefford-Miller, who took over leadership of the agency in April 2022. “They will each bring a variety of new skills that will help us build the regional transit system that Maricopa County residents want and deserve.”

Railroad Software

Tony Giamboy has rejoined Atlanta, Ga.-based Railroad Software to lead the product engineering team in the development and delivery of products that help railroads improve operations. The company offers rail yard inventory, railcar inspection, data services and compliance software, among others.

Giamboy served most recently in software development at Reibus, a B2B digital marketplace specializing in industrial materials for the metals market. Previously, he was a Railroad Software Product Manager, responsible for developing and launching new products that helped railroads increase revenue and improve customer service, according to the company. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science from Auburn University.

“We are excited to welcome Tony back to our team,” Railroad Software CEO Jeff Birmingham said. “His experience and expertise in software engineering will be invaluable as we continue to develop and deliver innovative solutions that help railroads improve their operations.”
