The League of Railway Women (LRW) is now accepting applications for a pair of scholarships—the Connie Sumara Memorial Scholarship and the Future of Railroading Scholarship—for the 2022-23 school year.

The deadline for both is July 2.

The $3,000 Connie Sumara Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a woman pursuing a graduate or undergraduate degree and seeking to further her career in the rail industry. It honors the memory of former LRW President Connie Sumara, a LRW founder and the group’s longest-serving President.

Among the eligibility requirements: The applicant must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher; be currently employed by a railroad or railway-related business (such as a supplier) for at least 12 months; and be currently enrolled, at a minimum, as a part-time student (six-hours per spring and fall semester) at an accredited/post-secondary institution leading to an associate, bachelor’s, or master’s degree. Additionally, applicants in any field of study may apply, though the degree must support a career in the rail industry.
