James D. Martin, 74, rail industry publicist

Services were held for James D. Martin, 74, president of public relations and advertising agency JDM & Associates Marketing LLC, who died November 27 in Wilmette, Ill.

Martin formed JDM in 1984, specializing in transportation and logistics. The company’s website listed clients including Chicago South Shore Railroad, GATX, Hub Group, Union Pacific Bulktainer, Union Tank Car and Tiger Cool Express.

Prior to that Martin worked as a film and theater critic for the Chicago Tribune; a film instructor at Columbia College, and political speech writer, including writing for President Jimmy Carter. He later moved into corporate communications, public relations and advertising.

Outside of work Martin was a passionate coach for youth sports teams, including baseball and basketball.

He is survived by his sons, Geoffrey and James; daughter Wendy; four grandchildren; his brother, Jerry, and sisters Bonnie Jean Ziemann and Kaye Ellen Jero.
