The League of Railway Women (LRW) has added BNSF Logistics’ Vickie Vaughn and Trinity Industries’ Shundrekia Stewart to its Board of Directors; they will serve as Deputy Chairs of Education and Membership, respectively.

LRW’s mission is to “connect and cultivate women in rail, thereby promoting diversity and improving the business results of the railroad industry.” Founded in 1997, the professional association provides networking opportunities, sponsors industry educational activities, and supports mentoring partnerships.

Vaughn, who has been actively supporting LRW’s webinar program, joins the Education Committee. She is Marketing Coordinator at BNSF Logistics, a Bronze LRW Corporate Partner, and the company’s first female FAA-licensed drone pilot flying missions for the engineering and project rail team.

Stewart is taking over the Membership Committee’s deputy role from Megan Forbes, formerly of Trinity Industries, who has left the rail industry to pursue other opportunities. Stewart is Director, Customer Delivery Operations for Trinity, a Platinum LRW Corporate Partner. Prior to joining Trinity, she served as Director of Public-Private Partnerships at BNSF.

LRW Education Chair Kari Gonzales

“Over the past few years, we have worked hard to deliver educational sessions through our webinar program that are relevant, led by leading rail industry experts and provide exceptional value to our membership,” said LRW Education Chair Kari Gonzales, who is President of Transportation Technology Center, Inc. “Vickie’s passion for the industry and extensive experience will help us further evolve this program.”

LRW Membership Chair Anne Schlegel

“Our membership has been growing at historical rates and Shundrekia will help lead programs to improve our newly instated membership management programs, and establish new processes and procedures to improve the membership process,” said LRW Membership Chair Anne Schlegel, who is Director of Contracts and Compliance at Holland, L.P. “We thank Megan for her hard work and great contributions to our team and wish her all the best in her new role!”

Elections for the LRW Board of Directors, excluding the recently appointed Deputy Chairs, will be held in 2022.
