FLA DOT rail projects budget heads to capitol

The Florida Transportation Commission approved the state Department of Transportation’s project plan, including freight and passenger rail, through fiscal 2022.

Spending for the tentative plan totals $45.6 billion, and increase of $4.4 billion from the previous plan, covering 6,836 projects.

The FTC approved the DOT plan at its meeting March 6, sending it to Tallahassee for review by Gov. Rick Scott and the state legislature.

The Tentative Work Program directs the next five years of preliminary engineering, right-of-way acquisition, construction, public transportation projects and Turnpike and Rail Enterprise plans in Florida. It includes:

$38 billion to Product and Product Support $22.3 billion for Construction $2.6 billion for Right-of-Way $5.4 billion for freight logistics/passenger operations $6.8 billion to Operations & Maintenance $895 million for Administration/Fixed Capital Outlay Construction of 794 lane miles of roadway Resurfacing of 8,372 lane miles of existing roadway Repair of 181 bridges Replacement of 88 bridges
