2019 Short Line of the Year Louisville & Indiana

Railway Age is now accepting entries for its annual Short Line and Regional Railroads of the Year competition. Class II and III railroads are invited to submit entries describing outstanding achievement in one or a combination of areas.

Railroads in the U.S., Canada and Mexico are eligible for an award. Our 2020 honorees will be recognized at the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA) Annual Connections Convention in Grapevine, Tex., May 3-5, 2020. Articles describing their achievements will appear in Railway Age’s April 2020 issue, which will be distributed at the show. Railway Age will work with the honorees to publicize the awards in online and national media.

“‘Grass roots’ best defines the service provided by short line and regional railroads, which meet truly local needs and drive economic activity at the local level,” notes Railway Age Editor-in-Chief William C. Vantuono. “They have an important role in shaping and even shifting North America’s economy. That’s because short lines and regionals are innovators when it comes to turnaround situations, consistent excellence, streamlined operations, efficient maintenance, marketing, customer service, enhanced productivity, community relations, safety improvement, and critically important first-mile/last mile rail connections. The ‘Big 7’ Class I carriers depend upon their Class II and III partners to deliver—literally.”

The entry deadline is Friday, March 6, 2020.

The entry submission format has changed. It’s now a website with fields to fill in.
