Tom Simpson, who retired as RSI President Feb. 1, has a scholarship program named in his honor.

The Railway Supply Institute (RSI) is now accepting 2018/2019 school year applications for its annual RSI undergraduate scholarship, which has been renamed the Thomas D. Simpson Annual Undergraduate Scholarship in honor of RSI’s newly retired president.

RSI’s scholarship program provides a minimum of five college scholarships in amounts ranging from $2,500-$5,000 to children of employees throughout the rail supply industry.

“Since the RSI scholarship program began more than 25 years ago, more than $300,000 has been awarded to college students pursuing degrees in a variety of fields including engineering, business, science, healthcare and transportation,” said RSI Vice President of Trade Shows and Member Relations Amanda Patrick. “Tom, always a champion of our scholarship program, expanded the program’s impact several years ago by increasing the amount of the award. RSI is proud to rename the scholarship program in Tom’s honor as we continue to help outstanding students of rail supply industry families realize their college and career goals.”

Applicants must be the child or dependent of a current employee whose company is a member of the Railway Supply Institute or one of the Coordinated Mechanical Associations (CMA). The CMAs include the Air Brake Association, Inc. (ABA), the International Association of Railway Operating Officers (IAROO), the League of Railway Industry Women (LRIW), Mechanical Association Railcar Technical Services (MARTS), and Locomotive Maintenance Officers Association (LMOA).

The application deadline for the 2018-2019 Thomas D. Simpson Annual Undergraduate Scholarship is June 8, 2018. Winners will be announced in July. Information on the scholarship program and a link to the application can be found online at http://www.rsiweb.org/scholarship.

RSI welcomes contributions to its scholarship program by individuals or companies to allow more scholarships to be awarded, Patrick said. More information about contributions to the Thomas D. Simpson Scholarship program may be found in the donation form, downloadable at the link below.
