Metrolinx has awarded CH2M a Consultant and Program Management Services contract for its Next Wave Rapid Transit Projects initiative.

Building on its First Wave of Rapid Transit Projects program, which included, among others, the Eglinton Crosstown and Finch West LRT systems now under construction, Metrolinx plans to extend transit service to neighboring municipalities and regional areas outside the city of Toronto with the Next Wave projects. These include the Hurontario LRT, Hamilton LRT, and other rail transit projects to be determined.

CH2M served as engineer and program manager for the projects in the First Wave, the largest public transit investment in Canadian history, “and will provide continuity of service with tools for the Next Wave projects,” the firm said. Additional team members under the contract include Boxfish Group, Comtech Group and Turner & Townsend.

“As a trusted advisor on the First Wave RT Projects, the UP Express and the Regional Express Rail program, we are proud to support Metrolinx’s mission to champion, develop and implement an integrated transportation system for our region that enhances prosperity, sustainability and quality of life,” said Doug Willoughby, CH2M’s Canadian business manager for transportation.
