Fairview Heights, Ill.-based Metro East Industries has acquired Rail Mechanical Services (RMS), a mobile repair servicer.

RR Mergers & Acquisitions announced the purchase. All RMS employees will continue with Metro East.

RMS, with headquarters in Columbia, Pa., has completed more than 2,000 locomotive service calls since its founding in 2001. It performs running repairs and refurbishment work; cleans and paints locomotives; and handles engine changes and remote control work, electrical and mechanical troubleshooting, rewiring, and traction control installations.

“This acquisition accelerates our progress in providing locomotive and railcar mobile repair services nationwide,” said Gayle Ortyl, President of Metro East Industries, which has been providing railcar and locomotive repair and maintenance, both in the shop and on the rail, since 1990 for Class I’s, short lines, leasing companies, original equipment manufacturers and industrial clients.

The company’s 100-acre facilities in East St. Louis/Alorton, Ill., include railcar repair shops; railcar blasting, painting and lining shops; locomotive shops; a locomotive paint shop and scrapping/reclamation area; and railcar and locomotive storage yards.

In related news, RR Mergers & Acquisitions announced the sale of OWS Rail Car, Inc. and OWSA Rail Car, Inc. to Diesel Electric Services, a division of Milman Industries, Inc., in June.
