CMQ taps secondary AC44CW market

Central Maine & Quebec Railway is one of the first Class II or III railroads in the U.S. or Canada to tap into the secondary locomotive market for used GE Transportation AC44CWs.
CMQ has long-term leased a pair of CIT Financial-owned AC4400CWs. Formerly CEFX 1002 and 1006, the units have been completely overhauled with many components replaced or rebuilt by the CAD Railway Industries shops in Lachine, Quebec.
“Central Maine & Quebec continues to grow its traffic base and is looking to higher-horsepower AC traction locomotives to reduce the overall number of units needed to haul trains across the uneven terrain of its line from Iberville, Quebec to Brownville Jct., Maine,” CMQ said. “These units will be paired for service and are to remain paired unless extenuating circumstances dictate otherwise.”
Plans call for the two locomotives to enter service in March 2018.
