The NYC Transit Department of Subways employs 30,000 individuals who work together 24/7, 365 days a year, to move millions of customers safely to their destinations. These employees operate trains, maintain railcars, assist customers in stations, make critical right-of-way or electronic repairs, and provide administrative support to deliver timely and reliable customer service.
The NYC Transit Department of Subways is seeking an experienced leader to be accountable for planning, organizing, directing and managing all personnel and activities related to air conditioning and heating, maintenance, repairs and installation. In addition, the Superintendent will oversee subordinates managing an HVAC facility, payroll, safety, inventory and record keeping, provide written reports and work plans, review installation plans, implement and schedule preventative maintenance schedules and perform field inspections and audits. The selected candidate will also assume the duties and responsibilities of the General Superintendent during their absence.
Education and Experience Requirements:
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in Business Administration, Labor Relations, Engineering, Architecture, or a closely related field of study and six (6) years of full-time related experience, of which three (3) years must have been in a managerial/supervisory capacity; Or
A satisfactory combination of education and experience.
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering is desirable.
HVAC Certification from and accredited/nationally recognized institution.
Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
A proven ability to review design documents (contract drawings and specifications), shop drawings and O & M manuals from a maintenance operation and commissioning perspective.
Knowledge of transit operations with respect to trades that relate to infrastructure maintenance and construction, railroad industry safety standards, material procurement and labor contracts.
Extensive experience in the repair, testing, trouble–shooting, maintenance, reconstruction, rehabilitation and installation of track and infrastructure components such as AC units, boilers, chillers, cooling towers, and cooling tower water management system.
Capable of estimating HVAC work with respect to manpower and material support of operating and capital work and providing required tooling and equipment.
Familiarity with operation, maintenance and troubleshooting procedures of HVAC equipment and boilers.
Knowledge and capable of creating computerized preventive maintenance schedule for boilers and HVAC equipment.
Knowledge of HVAC BMS system and programs, DDC controllers, logic diagrams.
Knowledge of proper use of refrigerant recovery and recycling equipment.
EPA Refrigerant certification is desired.
Knowledge of all safety rules and safe work practices.
