Material and Inventory Control Manager.

Our railroad maintenance division, Transdev Rail, Inc, provides an integrated suite of railroad maintenance, project oversight, and construction services.

Overview of Position:

This position is responsible for the procurement of all railroad materials, supplies, and equipment; managing the inventory process and system; and the administration of the vehicle fleet and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

Procurement

  • Sourcing and purchasing of all materials, equipment and supplies for ongoing daily inventory requirements. This includes all consumables, supplies, tools, safety items, and materials for the MOW track, Signal and Communication, Construction and Facilities departments.
  • Manage Purchase Order Process, prepare purchase orders, and follows PO process of purchase, receipt, and issuance of items to the appropriate inventory locations on the territory.
  • Builds and maintains vendor relationships.
  • Drives improvements in procurement efficiencies.
  • Ensures cost effective pricing for materials as well as on time delivery of materials.
  • Ensures timely delivery of material required to support production and projects for all departments.

Inventory Control

  • Administrator of Trapeze Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) system that supports inventory control.
  • Conducts periodic inventory analysis to solve inventory problems.
  • Ensures inventory control procedures are followed.
  • Supervise and coordinate loading and unloading of material shipments.
  • Makes certain purchase orders are entered and verified in the system
  • Compile inventory reports for distribution to management and the client.

Fleet/Equipment

  • Fleet/Vehicle administration – works with Fleet Services Company monitoring fuel records/fuel cards/registration/fleet insurance.
  • Coordinates vehicle and equipment repair.
  • Utilizing GPS systems to monitor drivers and track vehicles.
  • Monitor fuel purchases for all employees.

Other:

  • Project Coordinator of subcontractors which include rail detector, mobile rail welding, geometry testing, rail seat abrasion services, etc. to meet our contractual obligations.
  • Project Coordination for Special Projects/Extra Work. This includes ordering material for projects, coordinating delivery of material, coordinating the leasing of rental equipment and the transporting of Transdev Rail Equipment to jobsites. Also coordinate the disposal of railroad ties, signal batteries, trash dumpsters and fencing.
  • Support Hurricane preparations (Purchase of Generators, Spare Material, Spare Consumables, Water, Fuel, Staging of Equipment and Generators)
  • Supervises three Record Management Information System/Inventory employees.
  • Other duties as required.

Experience Required:

  • Must have at least 8+ years of experience in purchasing and inventory, ideally in a railroad environment.
  • Must have at least 3+ years of experience supervising a small staff.
  • Experience and knowledge of the railroad industry’s concepts, practices, and procedures specifically in management of materials and sourcing within a maintenance environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, along with excellent technical documentation and record keeping skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products such Excel and Word and inventory software.
  • BA/BS degree required in Business Administration, Transportation or a related field.

Experience preferred:

  • Prefer a minimum of 5+ years in inventory management, purchasing and fleet management.
  • Experience and knowledge of the railroad industry’s concepts, practices, and procedures specifically in management of materials and sourcing within a maintenance environment.
  • Prefer at least 5 years of experience managing electronic inventory systems and databases.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Self-directed, positive and ethical role model able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to manage vendor service contracts with constant evaluation and monitoring of service levels.
  • Strong negotiation skills

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work a flexible work schedule, including weekends as needed
  • Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in all types of conditions (e.g. weather, rain, dust, noise, heat, etc.)
  • Job requires standing, bending, stooping, kneeling and walking.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
