The NYC Transit Department of Subways Maintenance of Way (MOW) is committed to providing a safe and healthy work environment. The MOW division of Track, is charged with maintaining, inspecting and reconstructing 665 miles of mainline tracks; 157 miles of yard tracks and 2,654 mainline and yard switches. In addition, the division is responsible for cleaning station tracks and roadbeds system-wide and for maintaining and inspecting Third Rail operations.

The Subways MOW team is seeking a Director, Subways Field Support who will be responsible for

managing a professional engineering staff of 8 engineers to carry out complex track and switch engineering surveys and designing track and special work for all track and switch reconstruction and maintenance in the NYCT System during night time and weekends.  Duties include: planning, coordinating and performing track and switch engineering surveys; evaluation of existing field conditions; design of optimum replacement type and alignment of tracks and switches; preparation of detailed design drawings; and, performing on-site technical support during track and special work installations. Providing engineering assistance to the Track Maintenance and Track Construction Divisions to ensure that NYCT and Industry Standards and guidelines are met.  Incumbent must be prepared to react/respond to emergencies and other critical occurrences as required 24hrs/7days a week.

Education and Experience Requirements:

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, or a closely related field of study and 5 years of full-time related experience, of which 3 years must have been in a managerial/supervisory/administrative capacity; OR

A satisfactory combination of education and experience.

All applicants must possess a valid New York State Professional Engineer license.

Desired Skills:

Comprehensive knowledge of engineering inspection techniques, track and switch construction design and engineering standards, track maintenance and construction methods, materials technology and track related manufacturing.

Extensive Track related experience is highly desirable.

Must be proficient with MS Office and CADD, including Bentley Rail Track, software.
