Assistant Supervisor of Track and Heavy Equipment Trainer

Overview of Position:

Responsible for managing the track operations on the South Florida Regional Corridor that involves track inspection and repairs, replacing rails, ties, switches and ballast in compliance with the agreement terms and conditions, applicable regulations, SFRTA standards, FRA, and budgets.

Key Responsibilities:

Responsible for managing day to day activities involving track inspection and track maintenance to ensure safe, efficient rail quality on the South Florida Rail Corridor.

Undertakes special projects as assigned.

Apply collective agreement and company policies when carrying out duties, including managing and coaching employees, conducting investigations, recommending corrective action, and responding to grievances

Assist the Track Supervisor in developing training schedule and provides hands on training for all rail and construction equipment.

Respond immediately to extraordinary conditions and to initiate inspections and/or repairs to track or facilities as required to maintain Authority facilities and operations

Other duties as required.

Experience Required:

15 years of progressively responsible experience in railroad track maintenance and/or construction in an operating railroad environment, including at least 10 years’ experience in supervising or directing the work of others engaged in railroad track maintenance; and five years’ experience in managing construction and/or maintenance contracts.

Ability to lead and train employees on all railroad related equipment.

Must possess a CDL

Experience preferred:

Desirable to have an associate degree from a junior or community college in business, construction or a related field

Skills and Knowledge Required:

Knowledge of the safe and proper procedures for operating railroad maintenance hand and power tools and railroad maintenance equipment.

Experience in training one on one and small groups.

Must be able to demonstrate ability to communicate in written and verbal English language with prior recordkeeping experience

Must possess strong leadership interpersonal skills

Ability to be Qualified on Authority’s examinations and the GCOR related to these regulations

Knowledge of the physical layout and operation of a commuter rail system similar to Authority’s

Knowledge of the time for completion and the cost of repair for track and right-of-way facilities, and the ability to make value judgments regarding economic repair and/or replacement of these facilities

49 CFR Part 213.119 certified.

Ability to read and interpret drawings, plans and specifications for railroad track and civil construction, and to inspect track and supervise the work of others for compliance with these documents

Ability to complete work under time pressures and to maintain composure under the stress of emergency situations

Ability to perform scheduled and unscheduled repair or construction work at any time on any day of the week

Must have, or obtain within six weeks of hire date, a valid Florida drivers’ license with no more than three moving violations and no DUI’s within the last three years

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Must pass a pre-employment drug test, background check and physical exam

Physical Requirements:

Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, to lift objects weighing a minimum of 50 lbs and must have the ability to distinguish colors and to hear warning signals, radio and telephone devices

On-call 24/7, 365 days a year, with allowances for vacations, sick leave, and related time off with duties assigned to the Track Supervisor when off duty
