$87MM Available for New York Rail, Port Projects

The New York State Department of Transportation is accepting grant applications for freight rail, port and grade crossing improvement projects until April 22.
Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo announced that grants totaling $87 million are available to maintain and update freight rail and port infrastructure through the Passenger and Freight Rail Assistance Program ($85.5 million) and to improve crossing surfaces via the Section 130 Railway-Highway Grade Crossing Program ($1.5 million).
Projects will be selected through a competitive solicitation process and rated based a benefit cost analysis, adherence to regional economic development plans, compatibility with other private and public investments, and actions that enhance resilience and reduce climate risk, according to the governor’s office.
Among the eligible projects: track and bridge rehabilitation; yard, terminal and siding construction; clearance obstruction eliminations; wharf, dock and bulkhead construction and reconstruction; dredging; at-grade crossing resurfacing; and material handling equipment storage facility construction.
“These projects will help improve the state’s overall economic competitiveness while removing millions of trucks annually from our roadways,” New York State DOT Commissioner Marie Therese Dominquez said.
