“We are excited to announce this terminal development for USDCF,” Senior Vice President Bob Copher said on Jan. 17. The National City, Calif.-based biofuels terminal is slated to be served by BNSF.

Houston, Tex.-based USD Clean Fuels (USDCF) on Jan. 17 reported its plan to build a new biofuels terminal in National City, Calif., to be served by BNSF and deliver fuels to the area from the Midwest and U.S. Gulf Coast.

The terminal will be capable of transloading renewable diesel, biodiesel, ethanol and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Pending receipt of all local and state permits, it is expected to be operational by early 2024, said USDCF, a subsidiary of USD Group LLC, which is described as “engaged in designing, developing, owning and managing large-scale multi-modal logistics centers and energy-related infrastructure across North America.”

According to the company, development “is supported by two investment-grade rated parties that signed long-term Terminal Service Agreements. The Terminal Services Agreements provide for the inbound shipment of renewable diesel, biodiesel, ethanol and SAF on rail; self-switching of the rail rack; and four truck loading spots that are equipped with in-line injection capabilities to provide quality finished products to customers.”

In related news, clean hydrogen developer Bakken Energy announced Jan. 4 that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding with BNSF to work together on the design of the Heartland Hydrogen Hub. In collaboration with the states of North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Montana, North Dakota-based Bakken Energy is working on the design of the Hub, a regional clean hydrogen hub competing to obtain federal funding through the Department of Energy’s $7 billion Regional Clean Hydrogen Hubs program announced Sept. 22, 2022, as part of the larger $8 billion hydrogen hub program funded through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
