Railinc’s TransmetriQ reported on April 19 that it is providing shippers a “one-stop shop to manage and analyze their rail operations.”

The Rail Management System (RMS) is described as the “TMS created for rail shippers” that offers shipment tracking and estimated time of arrival (ETA) information, electronic bill of lading capabilities, and analytics all in one platform, according to TransmetriQ, the commercial products unit of Railinc, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Association of American Railroads. It provides “single-source access to more than 600 railroads”; “high-quality, near real-time data protected by Railinc’s trusted secure data access policy”; and a user-configurable dashboard with a map to view shipment locations, the company reported.

“RMS will soon include rate and route optimization tools, a fleet management module, and further applications that heavily leverage artificial intelligence and machine learning,” said Mika Majapuro, Railinc Vice President of Product Management and Strategy. “Using artificial intelligence, RMS will suggest optimization opportunities for shippers rather than simply alerting to problems.”

In related developments, TransmetriQ in August 2021 debuted Wheelset Intelligence, a new tool to help freight car owners, lessors, repairers and users determine the “right” time to replace wheelsets.
