Transtar, LLC has selected RSI Logistics to operate and market Delray Connecting Railroad Company’s (DCRR) Zug Island bulk terminal in Michigan.

DCRR is one of five Transtar Class III switching carriers. It serves the Zug Island area in Detroit with approximately 15 miles of track, and interchanges with CN, Norfolk Southern, CSX and Conrail.

The transloading facility is a central shipping location for several commodities, as well as the Detroit and Toledo, Ohio markets, according to RSI Logistics, which noted that teaming with Transtar will allow the companies to drive facility growth and development and to “introduce new opportunities” by upgrading equipment and expanding tracks.

Okemos, Mich.-based RSI Logistics manages more than 20 terminals that handle products ranging from bulk food to hazardous chemicals.

“This new relationship with RSI will unlock some unique synergies while providing us more access to expertise and resources to serve the growing needs of our expanding customer base,” said J.W. Burwinkel, Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer of Transtar, which also runs Union Railroad Company in Pennsylvania’s Monongahela Valley; Gary Railway Company in Gary, Ind.; Texas & Northern in Lone Star, Tex.; Lake Terminal Railroad Company in Lorain, Ohio; and contract carrier Fairfield Southern Company, which operates within U.S. Steel’s Fairfield Works at Fairfield, Ala.

“We are ready and excited to begin working with Transtar to provide more opportunities for transloading,” RSI Logistics Vice President Kelley Minnehan said. “Transtar is all about providing rail transportation services and satisfying customers, and we foresee a successful journey together.”
