Chattanooga, Tenn.-based Edwin Bohr / Electronics (EB/E) acquired K&L Electronics. Also, TekTracking LLC will provide infrastructure inspection and testing management software for South Florida Regional Transportation Authority’s (SFRTA) Tri-Rail commuter railroad.

In-cab locomotive electronics supplier EB/E has purchased K&L Electronics, a locomotive electrical component repairer and supplier based in Searcy, Ark.

“K&L has an esteemed history as a leader in the aftermarket repair services segment, and I am excited to add that experience to our organization,” EB/E CEO Bryan Grillone said. “Their customer-centric focus and internal culture align closely with EB/E and represent exactly what we search for in business partners. We look forward to leveraging the strengths of each organization to bring even better service and increased value to all of our customers.”

TekTracking LLC has signed a contract with Transdev Rail Inc., the track and signal maintenance contractor for SFRTA, to implement TIMPS (Track Inspection, Maintenance Planning and Scheduling System) and SITE (Signal/Crossing Inspection and Testing Efficiency Application) on Tri-Rail, which links Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach. TekTracking reported that it will support and equip SFRTA/Transdev’s rail track and signal personnel with mobile applications to log all data related to track and signal inspection and required testing.

“Transdev Rail is excited to enter into this agreement with TekTracking to fulfill our reporting, inspection and testing requirements on this dynamic rail corridor,” Transdev Rail South Florida General Manager Edward Reardon said. “The TekTracking platform will enable greater versatility for our inspectors and ensure timely recording of critical events and testing for compliance with FRA [Federal Railroad Administration] standards and [to] better satisfy our client’s needs.”

“This is an extremely important and busy corridor with comingled operation of freight and intercity commuter passenger trains, including Amtrak,” TekTracking CEO Greg Fogarty said. “Testing and inspection activities are critical, as well as real-time viability of issues to keep trains moving.”

In related developments, Class III New Orleans Public Belt Railway in March chose TekTracking LLC software to manage track inspection and maintenance planning and scheduling work.
