The American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA) has appointed a new Vice Chairman of its Executive Board of Directors: Justin Broyles, Executive Vice President, Commercial Affairs at R.J. Corman Railroad Group. He will serve a three-year term.

The move follows the association’s appointment last month of Board Chair Matt Walsh, Executive Vice President, Global Corporate Development at Genesee & Wyoming, who previously served as Vice Chair. Walsh succeeded Stefan Loeb, who stepped down from the Chairmanship role after transitioning from employment at Watco—a transportation and supply chain services company owning and operating a network of short lines, terminals and ports—to Class I Norfolk Southern.

Broyles will continue to serve as ASLRRA’s Vice President of the Eastern Region and will also take on the role of Chair of the Short Line Safety Institute (SLSI). At R.J. Corman Railroad Group, he is responsible for all Class I corporate relations for the R.J. Corman companies and leads the commercial endeavors for R.J. Corman Railroad Company’s short lines and Storm Team.

“Justin has been a thoughtful and impactful contributor to the work of the ASLRRA Board of Directors, the members who direct the organization’s strategic goals and priorities and provide governance and oversight to the Association,” ASLRRA President Chuck Baker said. “As the newly elected Vice Chair, Justin will play a crucial role and provide critical continuity to our efforts, as the Vice Chair stands ready to step into Chairmanship at any time. His expertise in the specifics of railroading balanced with his interest in broader railroad trends and policy makes him a great fit for this position. We look forward to continuing to work with Justin.”

ASLRRA also announced that Watco Senior Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer Laura McNichol is the new At-Large, Large Railroad Holding Company Board Representative, and Everett Railroad Company President Alan Maples is the new At-Large, Small Railroad Board Representative. Maples was also elected as Chair of the Small Railroad Committee. Kareen Gray, Vice President of Sales-Regional Railroads, Short Lines and Ports at Wabtec Corporation, was re-elected to the ASLRRA Board as Associate Board Member Representative. Additionally, Jared Martin, Vice President, Operations at Modesto and Empire Traction Company, has joined the SLSI board as an At-Large Member.
