LSRC hosts Congressman Kildee

Congressman Dan Kildee (D-MI-5) recently joined representatives from Lake State Railway (LSRC) for a tour and transportation public policy discussion at LSRC headquarters in Saginaw, Mich.

Kildee was elected to the United States House of Representatives by Michigan’s 5th Congressional District in 2012. He’s the Chief Deputy Whip for the Democratic Party and sits on the House Ways and Means Committee.

LSRCRailway Age’s 2018 Short Line of the Year—has “invested millions of dollars rehabilitating the railroad to better serve customers and improve safety, and the 45G Short Line Railroad Tax Credit has provided an important part of that investment.” Since his election in 2012, Kildee has been a leading advocate of the credit and the railroad.

The tour was led by John Rickoff, President, CEO, LSRC, and Shasta Duffey, V.P. Marketing and Sales, LSRC. The group toured LSRC facilities and viewed one of its locomotives, discussed the challenge of finding sufficient funds to maintain America’s freight railroad network; and advocated for support of the Building Rail Access for Customers and the Economy (BRACE) Act.

“It was a privilege hosting Congressman Kildee,” said Duffey. “Our company is dedicated to serving our many customers and the 45G tax credit plays a key role in the long-term and safe operation of the Lake State Railway. We thank Congressman Kildee for his early and ongoing support for 45G and short line industry overall.”
