Louisville & Indiana Railroad (LIRC) is a 2021 Military Friendly® Employer. To earn the designation, employers must invest in substantive programs to recruit, retain and advance veterans within their organizations. They are evaluated using public data sources and responses from a proprietary survey.

“For several years, LIRC has made a concerted effort to hire employees with military experience and have veterans in roles from hourly employees to the senior level,” President John Goldman said. “Commitment, discipline, solid work ethic and integrity are just some of the characteristics that veterans bring to LIRC. Recognition is not why we strive to hire those with military experience. Rather, we hire these individuals for the value they add, as well as doing our part in thanking them for their service by providing them with a solid career that offers top notch pay and benefits.”

LIRC, Railway Age’s 2019 Short Line of the Year and a subsidiary of Anacostia Rail Holdings Company, has also been awarded the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association General Timmons Award (now known as the Veterans Engagement Award) for its efforts in hiring and aiding veterans, both at work and in the community.
