Donald M. Itzkoff, Chief Policy Officer, Patriot Rail Company LLC and Patriot Port Holdings LLC

Jacksonville, Fla.-based Patriot Rail has named Donald M. Itzkoff to the newly created position of Chief Policy Officer. He will lead strategic policy engagement for Patriot Rail Company LLC and Patriot Port Holdings LLC, a U.S. operator of short line and regional railroads, rail services and integrated port logistics companies.

Itzkoff, a Railway Age Contributing Editor, most recently headed Global Government Affairs for Wabtec Corp., and earlier led U.S. Government Affairs for GE Transportation. He has also served as Deputy Administrator of the Federal Railroad Administration and as Senior Counsel to the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation. Itzkoff is a member of the Board of Directors for the Center for Hearing and Communication in New York City.

General Richard Timmons, USA, Ret., a member of the Patriot Rail Board of Directors and a former President of the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association, added: “I first met Don during his tenure at the Federal Railroad Administration. His leadership skills and deep domain expertise will strengthen Patriot’s premier position as a trusted transportation partner of choice.”

Itzkoff said: “I worked with John Fenton when he ran the Los Angeles Metrolink commuter rail system. It is a privilege now to be part of the terrific team John has assembled at Patriot to deliver for customers and grow new value for the company.”

Itzkoff most recently contributed to the Railway Age December 2020 cover story, “2021 Outlook: The Second Great Railroad Revolution?”

In other developments, Patriot has finalized its acquisition of 26-mile Salt Lake Garfield & Western Railway (SLGW) and its storage and transload service providers, Caballero LLC and Caballero 2 LLC, in Utah.
