The Greenbrier Companies, Inc. President and CEO Lorie Tekorius has been elected to the company’s Board of Directors. Also, Cando Rail & Terminals has elevated Lisa Smith to Assistant Vice President of Safety, Environmental and Regulatory.

Lorie Tekorius took over Greenbrier leadership on March 1, succeeding Co-founder, Chairman and CEO William A. Furman; Furman is now Executive Chairman, retaining responsibility for certain line functions until Aug. 31, 2022, the end of Greenbrier’s fiscal year.

With Tekorius’ election to the company’s Board, there are now 11 members, up from 10. She is slated to be nominated for a three-year term at Greenbrier’s annual meeting of shareholders in January 2023. Furman’s current Board term continues until January 2024. Effective September 2022, the Board will appoint a Chair from among its nine independent directors.

“Lorie is well qualified to join the Board,” Furman said. “She possesses a deep understanding of the company and a steady commitment to its shareholders. Through her work [as an independent director on the Board] with Alamo Group, Lorie brings direct public company board experience to this position. I thank Lorie for her longstanding commitment to Greenbrier, and I join the rest of our Directors in welcoming her to the Board.”

“Throughout her career, she has created substantial value for the company,” Lead Director Admiral Thomas B. Fargo (USN Retired) said. “The Board expects her contributions will further benefit Greenbrier and our shareholders as we continue to grow our operations, drive profitability and enhance shareholder value.”

“It’s an honor to join Greenbrier’s Board of Directors and support the company in this new capacity,” Tekorius said. “Alongside my Board colleagues, I look forward to collectively creating positive results for Greenbrier’s shareholders, customers, employees and all stakeholders.”

Lisa Smith has been promoted to the newly created role of AVP Safety, Environmental and Regulatory at Cando Rail & Terminals, which took on that corporate name in 2021 to reflect its “ownership of a Canada-wide Terminal Network and a commitment to rail infrastructure development.” (The company has eight terminals in Canada and provides integrated rail services at more than 45 locations across North America.) She is responsible for the execution and compliance of Cando’s integrated safety, environmental, and regulatory strategies and programs. An accredited safety auditor, Smith has served as Safety Officer and most recently as Director, Corporate Safety, since joining the company in 2016. Previously, she was a conductor, locomotive engineer and manager for Canadian Pacific.

“We are committed to protecting our people, property, communities and the environment from any adverse effects related to our operations,” Cando President and CEO Brian Cornick said. “Lisa has led many initiatives that have had tremendous positive impacts on Cando’s safety performance and culture. Her leadership and mentorship abilities have been instrumental in ensuring safety is the top priority at Cando.”
