The Class 1 carriers continue to make repairs and clean up lines a week after Hurricane Michael whipsawed the South with destructive winds and torrential rain.

In a service alert, Norfolk Southern said 15 locations on the Georgia division and 24 on the Pocahontas division are operating on generator power. All Communications & Signal systems are fully functional.

The company’s Engineering department has made repairs to more than 350 crossings and 80 signal locations damaged by the hurricane, which made landfall as a Category 4 storm and has killed at least 32.

“Customers in the affected areas should expect 24 to 48 hours delay. Norfolk Southern is monitoring closely and will continue to provide updates regarding storm recovery efforts.”

CSX advised it is continuing to restore service on lines impacted by the storm.

“As we continue to move into the areas that encountered the highest winds, which led to the highest amounts of trees down and continued power outages, we expect to resume full operations throughout the Florida Panhandle by October 20.”

All affected parts of the CSX network have been restored with the exception of Tallahassee through Chipley, Fla.
