NEARS Cancels Spring Conference

The North East Association of Rail Shippers (NEARS) announced that its Spring Conference, scheduled for June 3-5 at the Newport Marriott, has been canceled due to COVID-19.
“We were informed today that the Newport Marriott would not be able to host our conference on June 3-5, 2020,” NEARS noted. “The Governor of Rhode Island announced that groups of 50 or more people are not going to be allowed to meet from now thru the summer of 2020. This means that events like their Folk and Jazz Festivals, their many weddings and conferences, and other notable gatherings are all cancelled. And that includes our NEARS Spring Conference.
“The Newport Marriott has been great to work with, and is a wonderful hotel and organization from top to bottom. They have communicated with us the whole way, and unfortunately this is where we are at.”
NEARS added that it is working on its Fall Conference, which is set for Sept. 22-24, 2020, at the Pittsburgh Marriott City Center. NEARS added that it would be updating its website with registration links as soon as it can.
“Again, we are very sad about having to cancel our Spring 2020 Conference,” NEARS said. “We did our best. Now we will move on to making sure our Fall 2020 Conference in Pittsburgh is awesome. You will be hearing more from us very soon. Thank you so much. Please stay healthy and safe.”
