Kansas City Southern, Railinc join Blockchain alliance

Add two more rail companies to the industry group promoting blockchain transaction technology.

Class I Kansas City Southern and Railinc, the AAR’s rail data arm, announced they have joined the Blockchain in Transport Alliance (BiTA).

Blockchain is a decentralized, digital ledger in which transactions are recorded chronologically and publicly.

The organization, with 250 members, was founded in 2017 by technology and transportation executives with the goal of bringing together leading companies in the freight technology industries that have a vested interest in the development of blockchain technology.

“KCS recognizes the potential of this technology to create transparency and efficiencies throughout the supply chain to better serve the interests of our shippers and partners,” said KCS Senior Vice President Operations Support and Chief Information Officer Mike Naatz. “We are pleased to be among the group of transportation and logistics leaders who are working to establish standards and leverage the opportunities for all.”

“Blockchain presents interesting opportunities for the freight rail industry,” said Railinc President and Chief Executive Allen West. “We’re excited to identify ways to add value to our industry as part of this innovative, forward-thinking group working to advance blockchain technology and its transportation and logistics applications.”
