UTLX, RailcarRx launch car repair portal

North American tank car manufacturer and lessor Union Tank Car Company (UTLX) has launched UTLX Repair Link, a BRC and railcar management portal, to streamline transactions with contract shops during the repair cycle.

To manage its fleet of more than 80,000 cars, UTLX turned to technology solution provider RailcarRx, which was already providing its Repair Shop Management System for repair rebilling.

The portal has been rolled out in phases, UTLX said, and several shops are currently onboard with the system and more are being added, helping the company manage the repair process for shops outside of its own network. “This new system allows us to tightly manage the repair process and provide UTLX with more auditing capabilities,” said Rick Koenig, Director of Fleet Repair and AAR Services at UTLX.

Shops are now able to access railcar information, upload estimates and invoices, and communicate with UTLX, all through one streamlined platform.

UTLX plans to have all of its contract repair shops on board with Repair Link within the year.
