Kansas City Southern Railway is investing approximately $14.3 million this year on construction and improvement projects on its New Orleans Subdivision between Port Allen and Simmesport, La., and also at Norco, La., near New Orleans.

Work gets under way Nov. 15 on rail, crosstie and highway/rail grade crossing improvements between Allen and Simmesport and on rail improvements at Norco. The work is expected to continue through late-December. Communities that KCSR will be working through include Norco, Port Allen, Glynn, New Roads, Morganza, Batchelor, Innis, Lettsworth and Simmesport. In total, the project will include replacement of 4.5 miles of rail and 52,000 cross ties, as well as improvements to more than 100 road crossings.

“KCS, through its U.S. and Mexican subsidiaries, continues to invest in capital projects to expand network capacity, keep maintenance in a regular and healthy cycle, and enhance the safety of our operation,” said President and CEO Patrick J. Ottensmeyer. “These investments also help us be an economic growth partner to our customers and the communities through which we operate. KCS offers seamless transportation throughout North America and beyond with service to intermodal ramps, ports and transload centers and through strategic partnerships with all Class I railroads and many short line railroads.”
