CSX Environmental Field Services Senior Manager Brian M. Zacker received the 2019 North American Environmental Employee Excellence Award from the Association of American Railroads (AAR), the “highest honor for industry environmental professionals.”

Over the course of his CSX tenure, Zacker has improved environmental performance while delivering cost savings through enhanced environmental stewardship initiatives, CSX noted. Some of his accomplishments include: establishing a spent materials collection and recycling program; developing initiatives to recover 1,900 tons of coal in lieu of landfill disposal; improving hazardous waste and used oil management processes; and standardizing risk-reduction processes to support hurricane preparation and recovery efforts.

Zacker is a graduate of the University of Florida and has more than 25 years of environmental industry experience. He serves as a member of a local tri-county environmental crimes unit board in Florida and participates in beach cleanups as a member of the Surfrider Foundation.

AAR’s North American Environmental Employee Excellence Award recognizes leading contributions to environmental responsibility and excellence in the industry. Zacker is the ninth CSX employee to receive this honor in the last 18 years.

“Brian applied decades of environmental experience to his role with CSX, which informs his approach to innovation, relationship building and continuous process improvement,” said Raghu Chatrathi, senior director of public safety, health and environment. “He is a true change agent who has improved longstanding processes and achieved lasting outcomes.”
