CSX Recognizes 65 Chemical Shippers for Safety

Sixty-five CSX customers earned chemical safety awards for shipments in 2021.
CSX is honoring 65 customers for their commitment to the safe transportation of hazardous materials (hazmat) in 2021.
Sixty-five shippers—representing a wide range of industry segments—were recognized as part of CSX’s 28th annual Chemical Safety Excellence Award program. Each recipient shipped at least 600 carloads of hazmat on the CSX network in 2021 “without release due to controllable factors,” the Class I reported. Total shipments came in at 185,000-plus carloads.
Global chemical company Kemira earned special recognition for leading “all hazard materials shippers with 21 consecutive years as a CSX award winner,” CSX said.
Two shippers—ExxonMobil Chemical Company and Messer North America—achieved 10 consecutive years without a non-accidental release. Three others achieved five years without a non-accidental release: Americas Styrenics, Ascend Performance Materials, and Shintech.
“CSX understands the commitment required by customers to achieve the Chemical Safety Excellence Award standard, which is why we publicly recognize those who contribute so effectively toward protecting communities and our employees,” said CSX Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing Kevin Boone, who is an honoree of Railway Age’s 2022 “Readers’ Influential Leaders” program. “As an industry safety leader, CSX seeks to promote safety excellence not just within our company, but with all of our business partners and in all of our communities.”
